Today marks the start of Men’s Health Awareness Month and most notably, Movember.
The topic of men’s health and specifically men’s mental health gets swept under the rug all too often. Society tell us that men need to be strong, tough, decisive, stable, financially secure, and if we aren’t then we’re weak or less of a man. This notion perpetuates a toxic definition of masculinity and what it means to “be a man”, encouraging men to suffer in silence if they experience any sort of hardship, emotion, or trauma.
The reality is, we all struggle.
But do you know what the best part is? You’re not alone.
Every day, we’re one step closer to breaking the stigma surrounding men’s mental and physical health. Every day more and more men seek the help and support they need to prioritize their emotional and physical wellbeing. Every day, you can make a difference.
And it starts with this, a conversation.
Check in on the men in your life. Really check in on them.
Let’s grow more than mustaches this month. Let’s grow understanding, empathy, and support to men’s health.
